Long Range Transportation Plan Update

The Ithaca-Tompkins County Transportation Council is required to maintain a Long-Range Transportation Plan  (LRTP) that provides a twenty-year vision for the transportation system in Tompkins County.

The document needs to be updated every five years. All through 2024 the current 2040 LRTP will be updated to a new 2045 LRTP. Final approval of the 2045 LRTP is scheduled for December 17, 2024.

This website will provide information on different public outreach efforts as well as evolving drafts of the document as they are ready.

We welcome your input on the plan, but also, we would like to hear from you about ideas and issues related to transportation in our community. What works for you? What doesn’t? What ideas do you have to make things better?

The LRTP addresses all forms of surface transportation – cars, freight, transit, inter-city buses, bicycles, walking, shared transportation (bike share, car share) and rail. Air transport is not covered in this plan.

We invite you to participate in a short survey to help you think through different transportation topics and to provide us with useful information as we develop policies and ideas to include in the plan.
