WWTC Process

Want to know how Worksite Wellness for Tompkins County (WWTC) works? Here's a typical outline of the process...

Printer-friendly version

  1. The Heart Check survey is completed at the start of the program. This establishes a baseline for wellness programs at your worksite. The survey will be completed again 18-24 months later.
  2. Designate an employee coordinator. This person will work with TCHD staff to follow through the program.
    • Time commitment for the coordinator can usually be kept to an hour a week (maybe a bit more at start-up, less as the program settles in.)
  3. Form a wellness committee. This group oversees (and/or impliments) the worksite's WWTC program.
    • The coordinator is in charge of recruiting the wellness committee.
    • The wellness committee should plan to hold monthly meetings for the first 6-9 months. At minimum, 4 meetings should be held in a 6-month period.
    • Time commitment can usually be kept under 2 hours per month (average per committee member.)
  4. Plan a worksite-wide survey of employees to assess current awareness of basic wellness issues, and what ideas and activities people may be interested in.
    • The wellness committee will develop the employee survey, and decide how to distribute it.
    • Click here to see a sample survey. (Feel free to use these questions as-is or adapt them to your needs.)
  5. Set at 3-4 environmentally based worksite wellness objectives. At least one of these should address nutrition and and one physical activity.
    • The wellness committee will determine the wellness objectives, using the employee survey results as a guide.

The program will proceed from there. A TCHD staff member will attend meetings of the full wellness committee for at least the first 6 (+/-) months.
