Seeking a Dog 2020-05-27

The Tompkins County Health Department must locate a dog that bit a person on the Thurston Avenue bridge near Forest Home Drive in the Town of Ithaca. The bite occurred Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at approximately 10 AM.

The dog is described as black, short haired, and large breed about the size and shape of a Labrador. It was walking on a leash, with a muzzle hanging from the collar, accompanied by a tall woman in her 20s or 30s, wearing a tie-dyed shirt and dark jogging shorts.

The Department seeks to verify vaccination status and health of the biting dog over a ten-day period. If the dog can be located and observed to be healthy by the Department, the risk of rabies infection can be ruled out and rabies post-exposure treatment for the person who was bitten will not be necessary.

Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
