The Tompkins County Health Department must locate a dog that bit a person on Sunday, December 12, 2021, on West Court Street between North Plain Street and North Albany Street at approximately 2:30 PM.
The dog is described as a medium sized white or pale, short haired dog. It was accompanied by two women and another dog described as a Doberman Pinscher. The woman walking the biting dog is described as having brown hair in a ponytail and wearing a black track suit. The woman leading the Doberman is described as having blonde hair, a white jacket, and black pants. After the bite incident occurred, one of the women entered the Ballet Center of Ithaca on the corner of North Plain and Esty Street and brought out some napkins or paper towels for the person bitten.
The Department seeks to verify vaccination status and health of the biting dog through an at home observation over a ten-day period. If the dog can be located and observed to be healthy by the Department, the risk of rabies infection can be ruled out and rabies post-exposure treatment for the person who was bitten will not be necessary.
Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
