The Tompkins County Health Department must locate a dog that bit a person at the Cornell Arboretum in Ithaca. The bite occurred Sunday, May 3, 2020.
The dog is described as approximately 40-50 lbs., black and white pit bull or pit bull mix. It was accompanied by a woman in her 20s-30s and on a black, 6ft leash. The pit bull was approached by a Samoyed and was involved in an altercation with that dog. A man and woman were bitten when breaking up the altercation.
The Department seeks to verify vaccination status and health of the biting dog over a ten day period. If the dog can be located and observed to be healthy by the Department, the risk of rabies infection can be ruled out and rabies post-exposure treatment for the person who was bitten will not be necessary.
Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call the Tompkins County Environmental Health Division at (607) 274-6688.
