COVID19 2022-02-02 Update: Over 41,000 Tompkins Residents Boosted, Clinic Planning Update

The Tompkins County Health Department is sharing updated COVID-19 Vaccination Status data for our county. To date, over 41,000 Tompkins County residents have received their booster dose. Over 83,000 residents have received their first dose of vaccine or single dose J&J, and over 75,500 have received at least two-doses of their initial series. County-level vaccination data is based on data reported to the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) by providers administering the vaccine.

Public Health Director Frank Kruppa stated, “We are pleased to continue to lead as a county with high vaccine uptake, with over 41,000 residents boosted. Over the past month alone, TCHD has boosted close to 2,000 adults and 450 youth. We know that the vaccine booster has played a significant role in reducing severity of illness, hospitalizations and death as our county faced a surge in positive cases following the arrival of the Omicron variant.”

Kruppa continued, “Vaccines work. I implore everyone who has not yet received their booster dose to please do so now. If you have not received any vaccine, talk to your healthcare provider and review our website or call 2-1-1 to find out where to get vaccinated. It is not too late to get vaccinated and increase your protection against COVID-19. Vaccination is critical to ending this pandemic.”

The Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Booster is available for everyone ages 18+, who received their initial two-dose vaccine series at least five months ago (or at least two months ago for single-dose vaccine).

The Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine Booster is available for everyone ages 12+ who received their initial two-dose vaccine series at least five months ago (or at least two months ago for single-dose vaccine). For more information about the Pfizer vaccine for the youth population, refer to the TCHD website and CDC website.

Booster doses are not yet approved for ages 5-11.

COVID-19 initial vaccinations and booster doses are widely available at NYS sites and local pharmacies. Please bring with you a photo ID or a parent/guardian to confirm identity (if under age 18), as well as your vaccination card. Expect to wait 15 minutes for observation following your injection.
