Tompkins County Public Health Director Frank Kruppa stated, “COVID-19 vaccines are working very well to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death, even against variants. The booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will help maximize your protection, prolong the vaccine’s durability, and continue to safeguard our communities against the virus. I encourage everyone to get boosted as soon as you are able to.”
Kruppa continued, “It is an honor to host this clinic alongside Southside Community Center and other dedicated healthcare partners during the Juneteenth Celebration as we work together to address health disparities and provide services to our community that are accessible, equitable, and culturally responsive.”
Dr. Nia Nunn, Southside Community Center’s Board of Directors Chair stated, "Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of African/European enslavement in the United States. Juneteenth acknowledges the history of Black Americans discovering truths and fallacies about freedom in this country. This celebration provides an opportunity to uncover, reflect, teach, set goals, and bring visibility to not only progress, but also existing untruths and fallacies that remain about freedom for Black Americans. All of Ithaca’s community are invited to attend and enjoy an educational experience with great food, live music, children's activities, a raffle with prizes from dozens of local businesses, and unique vendors.”
