Tompkins SIREN: UPDATE ON WIND DAMAGE - The Tompkins County 911 Communications Center received dozens of phone calls about downed trees and power lines, as a result of damaging winds that buffeted the County during the midday hours. Wind gusts of over 40 miles per hour were recorded at the Ithaca-Tompkins International Airport, and over 50 miles per hour in Groton. As of 3:30pm NYSEG is reporting 5,700 customers without power in the County, with the most outages in the Towns of Danby and Newfield. While there is NO official travel advisory, drivers are urged to use caution...especially outside the City of Ithaca.....where numerous tree branches and other debris litter the roadways, and in some cases may limit access. If you are in an area where traffic lights are not operating, please remember to treat all intersections as a four-way stop. And, power outages in Danby, West Danby, and Newfield also impact the railroad crossings, meaning the lights and gates are not operating.
