Meet what you eat!

What you don't know can hurt you...

Pay attention to ingredients, too! Click here for more info

To eat a healthy diet, you have to know about what you eat. What basic nutrients are in good supply? Is there too much of some nutrients, and too little of others?

The US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Nutrition Facts labels provide much of the information you need. You'll find these labels on every packaged food item sold in the US. Some 30 years ago, Dick Van Dyke narrated a short promotional film about the Nutrition Facts label called, "Read the Label, Set a Better Table." This easy-to-remember rhyme is as true today as it was then.

Below, you'll see a sample Nutrition Facts label. The boxes around it point to some of the most important information on the label.

Use your computer's mouse to move the pointer over these boxes; you'll see more about how to get the most from the information provided. Move your pointer over the label to see a different sample label.
