The Tompkins County Board of Elections is encouraging all eligible voters to register for the 2024 General Election and to make a plan for casting your ballot.
Voters can check registration status, search for poll sites, and track absentee ballots any time through the New York State Voter Lookup Tool.
As of September 10, 2024, there are 57,164 (31,040 Democrats, 10,136 Republicans, 3,088 “Other,” and 12,900 “Blank”) individuals registered to vote in Tompkins County.
If you are not yet registered to vote, you can register online or with a paper registration form. The Tompkins County Board of Elections can register voters at its office (128 E. Buffalo St, Ithaca) during regular business hours (9am-5pm) or at an upcoming voter registration event:
- Table at Airport and Community Preparedness Expo: Saturday, September 14, 7am-1pm, 62 Brown Rd, Ithaca
- Table on the Ithaca Commons: Saturday, September 14, 12pm-4pm
- Extended office hours/events (128 E. Buffalo St):
- Saturday, September 28, 2pm-9pm
- Thursday, October 10, 9am-5pm (Statewide Registration Day)
- Tuesday, October 22, 9am-7pm
- Thursday, October 24, 9am-7pm
- Saturday, October 26, 9am-5pm
- Tuesday, October 29, 9am–7pm
- Thursday, October 31, 9am-7pm
Voters should note the following important dates:
- Early Voting: Saturday, October 26 – Sunday, November 3, polls open at 9am every day, check hours online
- Last day to register to vote and for the Board of Elections to receive absentee or Early Voting by mail applications by mail or Online – October 26
- Last day to apply in person for absentee or Early Voting by mail applications over the counter at the Board of Elections – November 4
- Last day to postmark a General Election ballot or last day to deliver a General election ballot in person to a polling site or the Board of Elections – November 5
- General Election: November 5, polls are open 6am-9pm
The Tompkins County Board of Elections reminds voters that the Board does not send unsolicited mail, robo-calls or text messages. The Board only sends ballot request applications or registration forms upon request by the voter.
Alanna Congdon, Republican Election Commissioner, stated “Because this is a Presidential election year we are gearing up for a busy next few months and preparing for high voter turnout. This is the best time to check your voter registration information, encourage others to register to vote, and make a plan for casting your ballot.”
Democratic Commissioner Steve DeWitt stated, “We’re encouraging people to do Early Voting because we’re expecting increased turnout for election day. In 2022, the last time there were federal elections, 7,158 of the total 35,543 Tompkins County voters voted early – I think we’ll see those numbers increase this year. I want to thank our staff and poll workers for their efforts, there’s a lot of time and expertise that goes into managing elections at the local level.”
