On November 20, 2023 at 01:10 AM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies were on scene of a personal injury crash investigation during which a deputy was directing traffic when a 2019 Honda approached the deputy. The driver of the Honda stopped and initiated a conversation with the deputy. The driver showed signs of impairment.
Deputies directed the driver of the Honda to pull over. The driver was identified as Ryan M. Benedict, age 22 of Lansing, NY. Through further investigation deputies determined that Benedict was intoxicated and arrested Benedict.
Benedict was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor) and Driving While Intoxicated with a 0.08% BAC or More. Benedict was later released with an appearance ticket and is set to appear in the Town of Lansing Court on December 7, 2023 at 2:00 PM.
