On 08/29/2024 at about 7:10PM, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence on Elm Street Extension in the Town of Groton for a disorderly conduct complaint. A citizen reported that their neighbor had stolen wood from their property, exposed themselves in their yard, and that the neighbor was highly intoxicated. Upon arrival, Deputies located the suspect on her own property and rendered necessary advice per the request of the caller. The suspect was identified as Katie M. Pesold, age 39 of Groton, NY.
At about 10:17PM, the original caller reported that Pesold was back on their property and operating a motor vehicle. While responding back Deputies observed Pesold operating a 2013 Hyundai in a westerly direction on Elm Street Extension. Pesold was driving erratically, traveling off the road, over the center line, and then struck a mailbox. Deputies attempted to stop Pesold, but Pesold failed to yield for over five (5) minutes, nearly striking multiple vehicles and failing to stop at multiple stop signs. Pesold eventually complied and stopped her vehicle. While interviewing Pesold deputies determined Pesold was intoxicated and placed her under arrest. Pesold refused to provide a chemical breath test sample.
Pesold was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, crossed over center line, failure to keep right, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. Pesold was turned over to the Tompkins County Jail to await centralized arraignment.
