On July 21st, 2024 at around 9:05 AM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies responded to an address on Winston Drive, Town of Ithaca when a concerned neighbor called about their missing 69 year old neighbor. The missing person was a dementia patient and Deputies learned, with the assistance of the neighbor, that a small wifi tracker last placed her on Meadowlark Drive likely walking into a large piece of woods owned and maintained by Cornell University. The wifi tracker last hit the day prior, July 20th around 8:00 PM putting the missing person in the woods overnight and in the elements for nearly 13 hours.
With the assistance of Cornell University Police, Deputies began searching the large area and were quickly able to locate the missing person nearly a quarter mile away from where the wifi tracker last hit (behind Tompkins County SPCA). The missing person was assisted out of the area and transported to Cayuga Medical Center for treatments related to her conditions and being out in the woods throughout the night.
Deputies were assisted by Cornell University Police, Dryden Ambulance and Varna Rescue.
