Tompkins County DMV Still Open for Many Services by Mail

In accordance with an executive order issued by Governor Cuomo on March 23, 2020 the Tompkins County DMV closed its doors to the public. Although we are currently no longer conducting in-person transactions, there are still many services that can be provided.

These services include:

• plate surrenders

• registration renewals

• plate transfers

• duplicate registrations

• duplicate titles

• We can also process new registrations which will require a separate $5 check or money order OR a prepaid UPS or Fedex return envelope for plate return. Via mail, individuals can send in the MV82, the DTF802, proof of insurance, title, a blank check made out to the Tompkins County Clerk, and copy of your license. We will return a copy of your check after we complete the transaction.

We understand that many residents throughout New York State do not have access to their local DMV. You do not have to be a resident of Tompkins County for us to provide you services through the mail.

Mailing address: Tompkins County DMV – 301 Third Street Ithaca, NY 14850
