Tompkins County Highway Director Named Association President for 2024

Director of the Tompkins County Highway Department, Jeff Smith, has been elected President of the New York State County Highway Superintendent’s Association for 2024. Smith begins his service as President following the Association’s Annual Winter Conference held this week. Smith has served as the Tompkins County Director for 11 years. He previously served as Franklin County Highway Superintendent (12 years) and Village of Malone Department of Public Works Supervisor (5 years); he has been active with the Association for his entire career in the industry.

As Director of the Tompkins County Highway Department, Smith oversees 41 employees completing highway projects across the County, from culvert and bridge replacements to plowing over 300 miles of road. In his Association role he serves as a leader advocating for highway department priorities, growing membership, and providing resources to peers across the state.

Smith commented, “It’s a true honor to be in this position. It’s important to continue to grow our membership and get more people involved in the vital work of highway departments in New York State. NYSCHSA provides connections, professional development, and advocacy to help improve highway systems and connect people and places, I’m proud to contribute to that mission and look forward to a great year for the Association and Tompkins County.”
