Tompkins County and City of Ithaca Pass Resolutions Adopting Reimagining Public Safety Plans

Both Tompkins County and the City of Ithaca have passed resolutions adopting a series of plans to reimagine public safety in response to New York State Executive Order 203. Final resolutions from both municipalities and the Reimagining Public Safety Collaborative report have been submitted to the New York State Division of Budget and Governor’s Office pursuant to the executive order, the final documents in their submitted form can be found on the Reimagining Public Safety web page.

The Reimagining Public Safety plans and report were completed following a collaborative effort with Tompkins County, the City of Ithaca, and the Center for Policing Equity in response to Executive Order 203.

Plans passed in the final resolutions include alternative response models, training and recruitment reforms, expert analyses of data, policies, and procedures, and healing the public’s relationship with law enforcement. Plans also include advocating for meaningful reforms at the State level.

City of Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick and Tompkins County Administrator Jason Molino penned a letter to New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, submitted alongside the resolutions and report. The letter highlights the collaborative process, extends gratitude to the community for their participation, and requests further support and engagement from the State.
