Media Release - Corrections Officer Recruitment

The Sheriff's Office is currently experiencing staffing shortages in our Corrections Division. The County and Sheriff Osborne have enacted the following measures effective immediately:

 

Recruitment

 

1.         Sign-on bonuses in the amount of $7,500 (with staggered payments) are going to be temporarily offered to all new Correction Officer’s hired since and beyond 01/01/23. To be eligible for the bonus, the applicant will either need to be new hire or a past TCSO C.O. who left employment for reasons other than retirement prior to the date of this order and within less than a year prior to it. They will be required to sign a three-year commitment or be subject to pay the sign-on bonus back on a prorated basis.

 

2.         Sign-on bonuses in the amount of $10,000 (with staggered payments) are going to be temporarily offered to all lateral transfer Correction Officer’s hired after today's date. To be eligible for the bonus the applicant must be certified as lateral transfer hire by the Human Resources Department. They will be required to sign a three-year commitment or be subject to pay the sign on bonus back on a prorated basis.

 

Retention

1.         The current salary schedule will be collapsed so that new C.O.’s and those current ones with less than 5 years on will move immediately to salary Step 5 (in a 10-step pay schedule) which is currently $24.93 per hour.
