ALERTE SANTÉ : Dites « Boo » à la grippe ! Vaccination recommandée avant le 31 octobre

(Ithaca, N.Y., October 21, 2022) – The Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) is alerting the community of the importance of prioritizing flu (influenza) vaccinations in early fall and invites the community to join us in saying “BOO to the FLU!” this year.

It is recommended that everyone ages 6 months and older receive a flu shot in early fall. Flu vaccines are now available at many locations throughout our community, including healthcare provider offices, pharmacies, and clinics. Vaccination is the best protection against getting the flu — it protects not only you but also limits the spread of flu to your loved ones and others. The flu can make even healthy people very sick and cause serious complications in children younger than 5, pregnant women, people 65 years and older, and people with certain chronic health conditions.

Everyone ages 6 months and older can now also receive a COVID-19 vaccine, and those ages 5+ are eligible for the new bivalent (updated) COVID-19 booster. COVID-19 vaccines can be taken at the same time as a flu shot, so double up your protection this fall. Go to vaccines.gov to find an appointment near you or talk to your healthcare provider. Dial 2-1-1 for assistance with finding an appointment or setting up healthcare.

Both the flu and COVID-19 are present in our community. If participating in indoor holiday events, be mindful of gathering sizes. Wear a high-quality mask when indoors and do not use costume face covers at the same time, which could restrict air flow. Test yourself for COVID-19 prior to attending events to increase your confidence that you will not be sharing the virus. Stay home if you are feeling unwell.
