Interested in developing affordable housing in Tompkins County?
The Community Housing Development Fund – 2021 Open Funding Round: Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) is now available.
The Community Housing Development Fund (CHDF) is a joint effort of Tompkins County, the City of Ithaca, and Cornell University. The Fund helps communities and organizations throughout Tompkins County respond to the diverse affordable housing needs of local residents. Projects must include units of affordable housing for low- and moderate-income households. The CHDF has supported the development or rehabilitation of over 800 affordable units in Tompkins County since 2009.
Community Housing Development Fund Overview
The CHDF is designed to help fund the construction or rehabilitation of permanently affordable rental or for-sale residential projects and ensure that these units remain affordable to successive buyers or renters. Eligible applicants include 501(c)3 not-for-profit organizations incorporated in New York State, municipal governments, public housing authorities that serve Tompkins County, and private, for-profit developers. Eligible expenses include the purchase or underwriting of the direct cost of land, construction costs, rehabilitation costs, or any other development cost that will reduce the overall cost of the housing units developed as long as these housing units remain permanently affordable.
