Access and affordability of child care is at the top of mind for so many families in Tompkins County. This investment through the New York State budget will have a direct impact on the number of open child care slots for families, the number of families who have access to subsidized care, and on the ability for providers to recruit and retain workers in this essential industry.
It’s my hope that our child care providers and families will take full advantage of the resources being made available to New Yorkers. There will be grants available to organizations providing care, and subsidies available to an estimated half of all families with children.
Thank you to New York State and Governor Hochul for their steadfast support of child care, and for this historic investment. Thanks also to our local providers, families, and County staff who advocate tirelessly for these resources.
Shawna Black, Chairwoman, Tompkins County legislature
