My family decided we wanted to live where we could easily
walk and ride the bus for most things and only use our car
infrequently. Because of this we bought a house on East Spencer
Street near downtown. I am a Professor of Mathematics at Cornell
and virtually never use the car to go to campus (except for
deliveries). I either walk (about 30 minutes uphill and about
20 minutes down) or (depending on the weather or my health)
I ride a TCAT bus.
Our family would walk to more places in Ithaca, if there
were more sidewalks and safer crosswalks -- for example there
is a need for more sidewalks and safe crosswalks from our
neighborhood into the Elmira Road area (including Buttermilk
Falls) and onto lower West Hill.
