I have been living without a car for a good part of the last
decade, and I have to say, that I enjoy it. I live downtown
and work on West Hill. On ambitious mornings, I bike up the
hill to work. Most other mornings, I ride the TCAT with my
bicycle and then bike home. Not owning a car has its limitations:
it limits the places I live (close to the bus stop, in biking
distance to work, etc..), and it limits the amount I bring
home from a store (I can only carry a weeks worth of food
home in my bike panniers). However, I don’t feel such
limitations reduce the quality of my life. I enjoy the added
exercise, the simplicity, the ease of finding a parking space,
and the small amount of oil that it takes to keep my chain
lubed.
