- New content for website: Nicole, thanks for keeping it
updated. Everybody, take a look and give feedback, ideas,
relevant local news.
- CYCC participation in Ithaca’s Earth Day: General
agreement and enthusiasm for Roxy’s suggestion to
include scooter transportation in CYCC’s Earth Day
exhibit, We brainstormed about exhibit possibilities, and
pros and cons of putting our energy into Earth Day. Roxy
plans (hopes) to attend the first Earth Day planning meeting.
For anyone else interested:
Earth Day Planning Session -- Saturday, January 21, 9-12,
Cornell Cooperative Extension, 615 Willow Ave.
Contact: Joey Diana Gates 607-351-0664; or earthdayithaca@yahoo.com.
- Promotion Campaign for alternatives to the automobile:
We generated ideas for big-picture, long-term publicity
for CYCC concerns.
- Jennifer has already organized a table on the 3rd floor
of Autumn Leaves, at the reasonable cost of $20 per month
(any donations welcomed).
- Jennifer has also sent the second CYCC newsletter to press.
If you haven’t seen the first one, grab it now at
local stores (any donations welcomed).
- Poster of people around town who curb their cars now and
then in favor of walking, biking, scooting, bussing, car-sharing.
Photographs with one- sentence blurbs:‘I started commuting
by bike when….’ ‘Once a week I take the
bus to work and…’ We’ll use this poster
at all events.
- radio spots
- TCAT postings inside and outside busses.
- Student exhibit of art on the theme:‘imagine a street
without cars’. Start by contacting one or two teachers
– possibly the few who’ve already been honored
by Mayor Peterson for promoting walking. Anyone know a teacher
who would participate? Exhibition venues: our website, TC
library, banks, restaurants, TC airport, TCAT busses.
- We’ll (Jan) contact the Ithaca College Communications
Dept. hoping to find a teacher willing to make our poster
and radio spots a student project. Fernando had some fine
radio spots created this way.
- Family Readership Partnership (FRP) Event, Nov. 12, 2005:
At least 4-5 CYCC members participated, joined by readers
organized by FRP from Ithaca College. We escorted kids into
the CYCC Ithaca Festival Parade's TCAT fabric bus and read
from two picture books: Make Way for Ducklings and Don't
Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! Also had crayons/paper on
hand for kids to draw about transportation. Several thousand
attended the event, and many dozens enjoyed our bus-readings,
a good way for CYCC to connect with family audiences.
