Next meeting will be September 4 at 3:30 pm (most likely the old jail conference room again).

Present: Jennifer Dotson, Sue Powell, Lois Chaplin, Rod Howe, Fernando de Aragon, Ted Schiele Kristen Brennan, Michael Smith, Margo Brinn

We discussed the draft mission statement and made a minor change. Comments still welcome:

Curb Your Car Coalition is a group of community organizations and individuals working toward sensible and appropriate transportation options to reduce car use. The Coalition seeks environmental, health and safety, social and economic benefits for Tompkins County through education, planning, policy and implementation.

David Kay follow-up w/ Ithaca Journal. Post remaining articles. May need to rewrite some of the articles.

Brief report from Walk Your Kids to School committee. Went through printed materials. David is going to follow up w/schools. Safe routes to school. Natl walk your kid to school day. Fernando willing to help make connection to Fall Creek School. Send flyer out to all school districts advertising the October day . . . post resources to website. List resources such as going places/making choices curriculum. Have something for parents to drink/eat in the morning at the participating schools. Have a superintendent write a letter to Ithaca Journal message. BJM also a likely candidate. Parents write letter to editor. Parent pooling. Crossing Guards draw them in human interest story. Hook up w/senior volunteers.

Is the listserv working? Some glitches. Rod will look into this.

Possible fall event: Mark Fenton (Rochester based). Former editor of walking magazine. Totally entertaining. Ted Schiele will look into this.

Will continue to explore idea of bringing Dr. Susan Shaheen to Ithaca in the Spring. Fernando has made contact with her. Rod will explore support from Cornell departments (starting with City and Regional Planning)
