Actualización sobre la COVID-19: Segundas dosis de refuerzo para residentes elegibles, dosis adicionales para residentes inmunocomprometidos

(Ithaca, N.Y., April 5) – The Tompkins County Health Department is alerting the community that specific eligible groups may now receive a second booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine four months after receiving their 1st booster dose. Those eligible for a second booster dose include adults ages 50 years and older, those ages 18-49 who received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine as their primary and booster doses, and those ages 12 and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. Additional doses (may be a third or fourth dose depending on an individual’s eligibility) are also available and recommended for those with eligible immunocompromised conditions. For more information on eligibility, visit the TCHD website.

Boosters and additional doses of the Moderna or Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines offer additional protection and prolong the vaccine’s durability. In accordance with the CDC’s recommendation, New York State’s updated guidance acknowledges the increased risk of severe disease for certain populations, making a second mRNA booster available for those who may choose to increase their protection further.

Public Health Director Frank Kruppa stated, “In addition to wearing a high-quality, well-fitting mask in necessary settings, a 2nd booster dose will provide an additional layer of protection for our most vulnerable community members. With additional variants developing, staying up to date on the COVID-19 vaccine is an important step for all of us. Whether you have not yet started a vaccine series or are now planning for your fourth dose, now is the time to get vaccinated.”

TCHD is encouraging eligible residents to stay up to date on COVID-19 vaccination. Vaccine doses are currently available at local pharmacies and primary care offices. Please contact your pharmacy or doctor to discuss availability or visit the TCHD website for more information.
