Community Invited to Food System Gathering at Ithaca Farmer’s Market

The Tompkins Food Future team invites the public to attend a free community event where results of the Tompkins County Food System Baseline Assessment will be shared. The event will be held on Wednesday September 29th at 5:00pm at the Ithaca Farmers Market, 545 Third Street, in Ithaca.

Organizers will review the results of the baseline assessment so far. This will include challenges, strengths and opportunities in the Tompkins County food system which have been identified via interviews, surveys, focus groups and data collection throughout 2020 and 2021. Tompkins County residents, community members, municipal leaders, and food system stakeholders are invited to eat, connect, offer feedback, and provide input on the development of a Food System Plan for Tompkins County. A light meal will be provided by Head Over Heal and guest chefs.  Please let us know you will attend by visiting www.tompkinsfoodfuture.org/rsvp.

Tompkins Food Future is a two-year community planning project led by the Tompkins Food Policy Council, funded by the Tompkins County Legislature and the Community Foundation of Tompkins County, and housed at Cornell Cooperative Extension Tompkins County (CCE-Tompkins).  Over the past year, organizers have conducted a baseline assessment of the current local food system. Year two will focus on the development of a long-term community food system action plan focused on a sustainable, equitable, healthy and affordable food system for all Tompkins County residents.
