The Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport is seeking photographers of all levels to submit their photos that represent Tompkins County for its “Picture ITH” Photography Contest. The top ten photo submissions will be selected and displayed in the new terminal, which will be open and fully functional in January with a gallery installed.
The photo contest will run until January 1st, and winners will be selected and notified by January 6th. First place will be awarded a $500 travel voucher, second place will receive a $250 travel voucher, and third place will win a $125 voucher. Seven additional entries will be chosen and displayed alongside the winners. Each photograph will be hung in the new terminal with a card including image title, caption, and the photographer’s name and contact information (if desired).
The ten photographs will serve as the first gallery exhibit and will remain installed for two to three months. The goal is to showcase a diverse range of photos that represent Tompkins County – from nature, to architecture, to food and more.
“When people fly into our airport, they are most likely coming to visit Ithaca because we are a destination airport. When people walk through the terminal – we want them to immediately get a sense of how special, unique, and welcoming Tompkins County is”, says Airport Director Mike Hall. “We speak your language, we cook your food, we celebrate your music, you are welcome here. We want this gallery of local photography to embody that phrase – everyone is welcome in Tompkins County.”
All entries must be submitted before January 1, 2020. Each participant may submit a maximum of two photos for the contest. All entries must have a Tompkins County connection and be original work. Only digital photo files (jpg, jpeg, or png preferred) will be accepted and should be at the highest resolution possible, or at least 1800 pixels wide and a maximum file size of 20mb.
