April 23, 2024 - Criminal Possession of a Weapon Arrest

On April 23, 2024, members of the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office and the Tompkins County Probation Department worked together to execute a probationary check on Rayquan T. Brooks, age 23, of Newfield, NY. 

Brooks is currently on probation for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class D Felony). 

At approximately 3:30 PM, deputies assigned to the Gun Involved Violence Elimination task force (GIVE) and Probation Officers located Brooks in the parking lot of a local outdoor education center (non-school). While searching Brook's vehicle, deputies found methamphetamine, heroin, and pills. Brooks was arrested and transported to the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office. 

Deputies and Probation Officers then responded to Brook's residence in the Town of Newfield. During the search of the residence, they located an unlawfully possessed Springfield AR-15 Rifle with a loaded thirty (30) round high-capacity magazine. 

Brooks was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (Class C Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree (Class B Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree (Class D Felony) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor). 

Brooks was held for Centralized Arraignment Proceedings and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on no bail.
