April 18, 2024 - Reckless Endangerment Arrest

On April 18, 2024, at 7:43 PM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the 700 block of Five Mile Drive in the Town of Ithaca for a report of a trespass. The Tompkins County 911 center advised the responding deputies that a person on scene had an order of protection against the individual who was trespassing.

Upon arrival deputies noticed a Ford F150 pickup truck running in a parking lot. Deputies pulled behind the truck so that the possible suspect would not try and evade deputies. When deputies exited their patrol vehicle to speak with the driver of the truck, the truck's brake lights illuminated. Deputies got back into their patrol vehicle. The Ford truck then revved its engine and accelerated in reverse and slammed into the marked Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle. The truck backed onto the hood of the patrol vehicle almost crashing through the windshield. Deputies were able to back up so that the truck slid off of the hood. The driver of the truck then jumped out and started threatening deputies. Deputies were able to deescalate the situation and take the driver of the truck into custody. The driver was identified as Gregory D. Edwards, age 26 of Van Etten, NY.

Edwards was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree (Class E Felony), Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) and Criminal Trespass in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor). Edwards was processed and held in the Tompkins County Jail to await Centralized Arraignment Proceedings.
