Bolton Point Water Clinches Top Honors at
2012 Tompkins County Taste Test

Health Department staff served up tasting samples from seven area water systems during Water Week 2007 festivities at the Farmers' Market. The 2012 event was held May 6, at the Ithaca Farmers' Market.

May 6, 2012

One hundred and fifty people offered their opinions on the taste of water supplied by seven municipal water treatment plants within Tompkins County, with Bolton Point Water System receiving the highest number of favored votes.  The Tompkins County Health Department, in conjunction with the City of Ithaca Water Treatment Plant, held the Tompkins County drinking water taste test at the Ithaca Farmer's market on Sunday, May 6, 2012.

This friendly competition is put on to recognize all of the water treatment plants for the work they do to provide safe potable drinking water to the residents of Tompkins County.

Voters determined that Bolton Point has the best tasting water in the county, beating six other participating water treatment plants.

The Cornell water treatment plant came in a very close second, while the Ithaca and Dryden water treatment plants tied for third. In no particular order, the Trumansburg, Newfield, and the Groton water treatment plants comprised the remainder of the field.

The Bolton Point water treatment plant will now represent our county in an upcoming regional competition held by the New York State Department of Health.
