On May 11, 2024, at 3:10 AM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies observed a 2007 Dodge traveling south on West Danby Road near Elmira Road in the Town of Ithaca crashing into a guard rail at a high rate of speed.
The driver was identified as Stephen P. Lavigne, age 37 of Lansing, NY. Deputies observed Lavigne to be in possession of alcohol inside the vehicle and Lavigne was showing signs of intoxication. Lavigne refused to submit to standardized field sobriety testing or a preliminary breath test. Lavigne was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.
During processing Lavigne refused to submit to a chemical breath test. Lavigne was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor), speed not reasonable and prudent (Traffic Infraction), moving from lane unsafely (Traffic Infraction), refusal to submit to a breath test (Traffic Infraction), and operating with a mobile electronic device (Traffic Infraction). Lavigne was turned over to the Tompkins County Jail for Centralized Arraignment Proceedings.
