Tompkins County, NY | The Tompkins County Department of Planning and Sustainability (TCDPS) and the Ithaca-Tompkins County Transportation Council (ITCTC) announced plans to hold an online public meeting for the New York State Route 13 (Route 13) Corridor Study. The nine-mile stretch of the corridor under consideration runs along Route 13 from Warren Road (Village of Lansing) to the Village of Dryden’s western boundary, and has fourteen total intersections, including five priority intersections that carry significant amounts of traffic. It is a main commuter corridor serving employment centers in the Ithaca area as well as a main freight route for trucks serving local businesses.
The study aims to provide strategic guidance for future projects and help protect the functionality and capacity of the roadway while ensuring the safety of its users.
Using findings of a technical analysis as well as input from a February 2020 community survey that received 1,499 responses, the project team assembled preliminary recommendations for the study corridor. Attendees of the online public meeting will have the opportunity to learn about the project as well as review and comment on the preliminary recommendations.
“Due to the ongoing pandemic, we cannot hold the kind of in-person events to engage the community that we did this winter,” said Katie Borgella, Commissioner of Planning and Sustainability. “This virtual public meeting will give residents, businesses and commuters in the corridor another opportunity to participate in planning for a safe and well-functioning State Route 13 while still adhering to state guidelines around social distancing.”

Format: The meeting will include a presentation, followed by an opportunity for Q&A. Participants will be able to provide written or verbal comments during the meeting. At the conclusion of the meeting, an online survey will be circulated to provide additional opportunities for all stakeholders to provide feedback.
