Tompkins County Green Facilities Phase One Kickoff, Event October 19, 12:30pm

Tompkins County is announcing an event kicking off phase one of the Green Facilities Project, slated to bring greenhouse gas emissions from County facilities to net-zero in the coming years.

The kickoff event is being hosted jointly by Tompkins County and Johnson Controls, a long-term partner in the County’s facilities improvement efforts and contractor for the Green Facilities project.

Join Tompkins County officials and leaders from Johnson Controls on Wednesday, October 19, 12:30pm at the Tompkins County Public Works Facility to celebrate this phase of the project and the County’s sustainability goals.

The Public Works Facility is located at 170 Bostwick Road, Ithaca, NY 14850

The Green Facilities Project is part of a larger effort by Tompkins County to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and invest in more environmentally sustainable activities. This phase targets energy savings and reducing emissions by an estimated 524.4 metric tons of carbon; just over one-third of the County’s facilities emissions across 11 buildings. Major projects in phase one include a geothermal installation at the Public Works facility bringing it to net-zero (expected to be the first net-zero highway garage in New York State), 100% LED lighting in all County buildings, electrifying the Mental Health building, and weatherization, water conservation, and building controls optimization projects. There are three total phases projected to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Johnson Controls is partnering with Tompkins County on solutions to reduce carbon emissions. This project continues an 18-year infrastructure focused partnership with Tompkins County. Johnson Controls will work with Tompkins County to track results of the project and message clearly the sustainable impacts of each phase.
