The Facilities Department is responsible for the effective and efficient management and operation of county-owned and maintained facilities and grounds.
This includes maintenance of service contracts and administering capital building projects. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Safe and clean work environments for staff and visitors.
  • Performing repairs and renovations as needed to maintain property integrity
  • Updating and replacing building operation systems as needed
  • Furniture moves (limited)
  • Monitoring energy consumption
  • Setting and controlling building temperatures
  • Controlling use of personal appliances in the workplace
  • Maintenance of building access systems including key or fob distribution

Each facility has building contact person that acts as liaison with the Facilities Department. This person also has access to the internal Work Order system. If issues arise with the facility or grounds, first consult with the contact person to determine if a Work Order should be created.

A Facilities Department call list was created primarily to assist staff with off-hours or weekend facilities issues.

Tompkins County Administrative Policy Manual has established certain guidelines for workplace environment. Among these are temperature. During the summer cooling season, target building temperature range is 72-76 degrees.
