Narcotics Arrest

On February 4, 2020 at 3:20 AM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a traffic stop on an older model pick up truck on NYS Route 13 near the intersection with Kirk Road, Town of Dryden.  During their investigation, deputies learned that one of the passengers, Sean P. SMUDA possessed drug paraphernalia.  Deputies then conducted a probable cause search which resulted in the discovery of product consistent with methamphetamine, cocaine and marihuana.
 
Two passengers were arrested for the possession of the narcotics.  Sean P. SMUDA, age 28 of Dryden was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor).  Sean M. PORTER, age 25 of Newfield was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree - Cocaine (Class D Felony), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree - Methamphetamine and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana (Violation).  Both SMUDA and PORTER were released on appearance tickets ordering them to return to the Town of Dryden Court at later dates in February. 
 
Deputies were assisted by the New York State Police.
