On February 12, 2020 at 2:10 AM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the intersection of NYS Route 13 and Lower Creek Road for an accident investigation.  During their investigation, deputies learned that a box truck and sedan had collided at that intersection and it was caused by one of the vehicles failing to yield right of way at the intersection.
Deputies interviewed the driver of the sedan, Lucas G. CANALES, age 22 of Ithaca, N.Y. During the course of their investigation, Deputies observed signs of impairment.  Deputies conducted a DWI Investigation which resulted in CANALES arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.  The driver of the box truck was determined not to be at fault for any part of the accident.
CANALES was charged with Failure to Keep Right at an Intersection (Traffic Infraction), Failure to Keep Right (Traffic Infraction), Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle (Traffic Infraction), Driving While Intoxicated (Unclassified Misdemeanor) and Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC of .08% or Greater (Unclassified Misdemeanor).  CANALES was released on traffic tickets ordering him to appear at the Town of Dryden Court at a later date.
