Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Accident

On April 3rd, 2018 at 6:11 PM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies along with the Newfield Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance responded to the 700 block of Shaffer Road, Town of Newfield for a Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Accident.  Deputies arrived to find that the vehicle was fully engulfed with flames and the single occupant of the vehicle was laying on the ground away from the fire.

During the course of the investigation, deputies discovered that the smaller sedan failed to navigate a left hand turn in the roadway and continued straight off the roadway.  The vehicle then went air born colliding with a group a trees, vaulted back into the air and came to rest when colliding with a large tree approximately twenty feet high.  A Good Samaritan witnessed the accident and was able to pull the critically injured driver from the vehicle just before the vehicle caught on fire.  The driver was taken to Robert Packer Hospital by Bangs Ambulance where he will be treated for his injuries.  Based off their investigation, deputies determined that speed was a significant factor of this accident.

Names of the involved parties will not be released at this time.
