Friday, January 2, 2015

Tompkins County Sheriff Kenneth Lansing reports that on Friday, January 2nd, 2015, barricaded suspect, David Cady, age 36, was found deceased in his home around 8:00 AM. There was no exchange of gunfire, after the initial shot fired by the deceased on Tuesday evening.

Throughout the ordeal, constant efforts were made to insure the safety of both law enforcement and the public at large. Attempts to communicate with Mr. Cady were unsuccessful during this situation.

The New York State Forensic Investigative Unit and the Tompkins County Sheriff's Criminal Investigative Division remain on the scene and an autopsy will be preformed on the deceased when they are finished in an attempt to determine a cause of death.

Sheriff Lansing would like to make known that every attempt to provide a safe and peaceful outcome for this situation was made.

The Sheriff's Office would also like to thank the many agencies that assisted with this incident.
