Tourism Board Seeking Lodging Representative

Wednesday, March 21, 2018

The Tompkins County Strategic Tourism Planning Board (STPB) has a vacancy representing the lodging sector. Tompkins County residents are invited to submit an application no later than April 20, 2018.

Volunteering your time on a County advisory board is an excellent way to get involved in local government and can truly make a difference. This spring, the Strategic Tourism Planning Board (STPB) is seeking qualified applicants for its Lodging seat. Individuals with in-depth knowledge of the hospitality and lodging industry in our area are encouraged to apply.

The STPB advises the County Legislature on the effective use of over $2.75 million in hotel room occupancy tax revenues. Its mission is to provide oversight and strategic direction for tourism initiatives that promote economic development and enhance the quality of life in Tompkins County. Board members are appointed by the Tompkins County Legislature to three-year staggered terms. Each member plays an important role in crafting the County’s brand as a great cultural and recreational tourism destination. The Board has a mix of members from lodging, arts and culture, recreation, and at-large members, which helps ensure that diverse interests are represented.

The board meets the third Wednesday of each month from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Convention and Visitors Bureau. More information about the Tompkins County Tourism Program and the STPB is available online at

Individuals interested in applying for a seat on the STPB must fill out an application and submit it to the Clerk of the Tompkins County Legislature. Applications will be reviewed by the STPB with appointment by the Legislature.
