Redistricting Commission Invites Municipal, Public Input August 9

Wednesday, August 10, 2011
The county's Independent Redistricting Commission next Tuesday will hold the first of a series of meetings to seek municipal and public input, before it begins preparing a plan for reapportioning County legislative districts.

The meeting will take place Tuesday, August 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the Enfield Town Courtroom, 189 Enfield Main Road (Route 327), in the Town of Enfield. (The courtroom is located on the second floor - enter from the rear of the building.)

The session is focused primarily on obtaining comments from municipal officials, but the public is also invited to attend and comment. This meeting is scheduled on the west side of the county; a second session on the east side of the county, at the Varna Community Center, will take place two weeks later, on August 23. The Commission also plans to meet with City officials and to schedule a general comment session for the public in the fall.

The Commission must submit its recommended reapportionment plan (and any alternates) to the Legislature's Government Operations Committee no later than March 1, 2012.
