Please see the information, forwarded  from the Ithaca Police Department regarding an ongoing active homicide investigation.

During the early morning hours at 12:52 am on Thursday December 8th, 2016 the Ithaca Police Department officers responded to Walmart located 135 Fairgrounds Memorial Parkway, regarding the report of a shooting outside in the parking lot. Upon arrival one male victim was located deceased in the parking lot. A male suspect fled the area prior to police arrival. A short time later officers from the Cayuga Heights Police Department and the Tompkins County Sheriffs Department observed a vehicle matching the description traveling northbound on route 13. The officers merged behind the vehicle and attempted to stop it on Route 13 near the intersection of Route 366. The vehicle refused to stop and continued for approximately another 1/4 mile and pulled into a driveway. The suspect exited the vehicle with a long gun and shot at police officers as he fled towards the area believed to be his residence.

A perimeter has been established and officers are proceeding methodically to secure the area and apprehend the suspect. Several tactical teams are on the scene. The affected area has been cordoned off and the neighborhood is being evacuated. Motorists and neighbors are being directed to alternate areas. Members of the community are being encouraged to monitor local media outlets for updates to traffic patterns and impacted community programs. Police departments on scene are the Ithaca Police Department, Tompkins County Sheriffs Department, New York State Police, Cayuga Heights Police Department, Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response, Syracuse Police Department, and the Tompkins County District Attorneys Office. A formal press briefing has been scheduled for 8:30 am at the County Fire and Rescue building at 92 Brown Road, Ithaca, NY.
