Public Meeting, Comprehensive Plan Update

Tompkins County will hold a public meeting on Monday, November 18, 2013 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm as part of the process to update its 2004 Comprehensive Plan. The meeting will be held at the Lifelong Center, 119 W. Court Street, Ithaca. Light refreshments will be served.

The public meeting will include a brief presentation regarding the scope of the Plan’s update, the results of the kickoff community survey, and how individuals can be involved in the update process.

At the meeting, participants will be asked to take part in a discussion to better define two topics, Affordable Living and Healthy and Safe Communities.  The Affordable Living section of the Comprehensive Plan will consider a variety of costs, including housing, transportation, utilities, and food, that affect the affordability of living in Tompkins County. Healthy and Safe Communities will consider how community design and development affect the health and safety of residents.

The Comprehensive Plan guides public policy and decision making on a variety of issues. According to Ed Marx, Commissioner of Planning, “The Tompkins County Comprehensive Plan needs to reflect our community’s values, build on our assets, and improve our quality of life. To do that, community members need to be involved in the process.”

For more information on the public meeting, please contact the Tompkins County Planning Department at (607) 274-5560 or
