COVID19 2021-11-23 Update Booster Doses Available for age 18 years plus

COVID-19 vaccination booster doses are now authorized for all individuals 18 years and older who received the Pfizer or Moderna initial vaccine series at least six months ago or the J&J vaccine at least two months ago. The Tompkins County Health Department is recommending that all eligible Tompkins County residents receive a booster dose as soon as they are able. Boosters are recommended to help maximize protection from COVID-19, extend the vaccine’s durability, and protect our community against the virus.

Booster dose appointments are available at local pharmacies, state vaccination sites, and some medical offices.

Dr. William Klepack, Tompkins County Health Department Medical Director stated, “Booster doses are important right now because they maximize your protection against COVID-19. We encourage all individuals who are eligible, especially those over the age of 50 and others with underlying health conditions, to get their booster dose as soon as they are able. Data continue to show that all available vaccines are safe and effective to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19.”

Klepack continued, “This is a time of year when the weather gets colder, and the holidays bring people together indoors. I urge everyone who is eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine and the flu vaccine to protect yourself and others.”
