With temperatures above 90 degrees and high humidity forecast through at least Thursday, local officials are urging residents to take the steps necessary to protect themselves from the danger of heat-related illness during the current heat wave. Tompkins County is currently under a heat advisory.  A heat wave is defined as a period when temperatures of 90 degrees or more are predicted for at least three days.

The Tompkins County Division of Environmental Health and the City of Ithaca Water Treatment Plant will be hosting National Drinking Water Week events on Sunday, May 16th, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ithaca Farmer’s Market.

The Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) provided 1,268 H1N1 vaccinations at community clinics and at the Health Department last week. To date TCHD provided 6,662 H1N1 vaccinations to Tompkins County residents.

Beginning this week, The Tompkins County Health Department (TCHD) will provide H1N1 vaccinations to anyone 6 months of age and older. Clinics will be held at the Department and at locations in the community. Please note that some clinic locations require an appointment. For appointments, call 274 – 6609. There is no charge for H1N1 vaccination.
