Rabies Immunization Clinics for Dogs, Cats, Ferrets Scheduled
September 21, 2012 (ITHACA, N.Y.) —The Tompkins County Health Department announces its Fall series of Free Rabies Clinics for cats, dogs and ferrets.
All clinics are from 7:00 to 9:00 PM
Newfield School Bus Garage — Wednesday, September 26
Groton Fire Station — Thursday, September 27
Caroline Highway Garage — Wednesday, October 3
Trumansburg School Bus Garage — Thursday, October 4
Ithaca Central Fire Station — Wednesday, October 10

New York State Public Health Law requires all cats, dogs and ferrets to be vaccinated against rabies by four months of age. Bring your certificate of vaccination for all pets receiving a booster shot to receive a three year certificate. If no proof is provided, the certificate will expire in one year. Ferrets must be boostered annually. Protect your pet. Protect your family.
This year to date, Tompkins County has had two raccoons, two foxes, five bats, one woodchuck, one deer and one mink test positive for rabies. Report all bites by domestic animals and incidents involving direct contact with wild animals to the Tompkins County Health Department immediately. If you find a bat in your home and you were bitten by it or it was in a room with a sleeping person, unattended child, or in a room with an individual lacking competence due to drugs, alcohol or sensory or mental impairment, capture it. Do not release or discard it. Call the Health Department.
