Tompkins County Health Department Thanks Media for Help in Locating Biting Dog

May 30, 2012 (Ithaca, N.Y.) — The Tompkins County Health Department thanks all the media that published or broadcast our press release dated May 29, 2012, about a dog bite that occurred on Pine Tree Road, Ithaca.

The dog owner has been located.  The dog will be confined for a ten-day observation period at its owner’s home.  A biting dog, cat, ferret or livestock animal that remains healthy for the subsequent ten-days could not have transmitted rabies to the person bitten.

Due to your efforts, the bitten person does not have to start rabies post-exposure treatment.

The Tompkins County Environmental Health Division can be reached at (607) 274-6688 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The same number will reach us after normal business hours for urgent inquires.
