Tompkins County Health Department Announces Seasonal Flu Clinics

 
Ithaca, NY (August 31, 2009)—Tompkins County Health Department  has scheduled ten public flu immunization clinics at various locations in the County. The clinics begin on September 23 and go through October 7. The Department is now reserving appointments for each of the clinics (see schedule, below).

The Health Department welcomes all adults 19 years of age and older to receive a vaccination at the clinics. Seasonal flu vaccination is recommended for any adult who wants to reduce the risk of becoming ill with influenza or of transmitting it to others. Alice Cole, Public Health Director notes that seasonal flu vaccination immunity lasts from eight to twelve months. “It’s not too early to get a flu shot,” she says. “We have the seasonal flu vaccine and we urge everyone to get a flu shot.”

Children 6 months of age to 18 years of age will be able to get a seasonal flu shot by appointment at the Tompkins County Health Department beginning in October.

Appointments are recommended. To make an appointment, call the Department at 607-274-6609 Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Online appointments are not available this year. The cost of the seasonal flu vaccination is $35. The Department will bill Medicaid and Medicare Part B. No one will be denied a flu shot if they are unable to pay for one.
