Tompkins County Health Department Announces County Flu Clinics
Ithaca, NY (October 6, 2006) — Tompkins
County Health Department will hold flu clinics at five locations
in the County from October 31 through November 16.
The Health Department schedules clinics during this time period
every year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
notes seasonal influenza (flu) usually
does not peak until January or February. Therefore, receiving
a vaccination during October or November will provide protection
during the flu season.
The Health Department is targeting people 50 years of age and
older; pregnant women, healthcare workers and anyone 19 years
of age and older with a chronic disease including heart and
lung conditions, diabetes and those who are immunocompromised
for their clinics.
The Health Department will begin making appointments for the
clinics on October 16. Last year was the first time appointments
were made for flu clinics. Participants were pleased with the
appointment system because it eliminated the need to wait in
line and they could plan their day around the appointment.
Those interested in making an appointment fir a flu shot may
go to the web site, www.tompkins-co.org/health
and make their appointment online anytime or call 274-6616
Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and from
1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. beginning October 16.
