Highlights - Food Protection Program

Routine facility inspections are made without advance notice. It is important to keep in mind that inspections are only a “snapshot” in the entire year of a facility’s operation and they are not always reflective of the day-to-day operations and overall condition of the operation.

Re-inspections are conducted at facilities that had a Critical Violation during the initial inspection.

The following facilities had no critical violations during re-inspections:

Imperial Kitchen Buffet, V-Lansing

Second Landing, T-Lansing

The violations listed below relate directly to factors that could lead to food-borne illness or injury. These violations generally involve the food source and condition, food cooking and storage temperatures, sanitary practices, water and sewage, and the use of toxic materials.

Critical Violations were found at the following establishments during routine inspections:

Second Landing, T-Lansing
Enough refrigerated storage was not properly maintained so that all potentially hazardous foods were kept at or below 45°F. Several food products were observed at 50-54°F in a cooler. All of the potentially hazardous products were voluntarily discarded during the inspection. A refrigeration repairperson was call during the inspection.

A re-inspection was satisfactory.

 
Viva Taqueria & Cantina, C-Ithaca
Enough refrigerated storage equipment was not properly maintained so that potentially hazardous foods were stored below 45°F. Shredded cheese, cooked black beans and cooked vegetables were observed at 55°F. The products were voluntarily discarded during the inspection. A refrigeration repairperson was called during the inspection.

A re-inspection was not conducted prior to submission of this report.

 
Best King Buffet, C-Ithaca
Potentially hazardous foods were not stored under refrigeration. Various foods were observed on a counter at 54-56°F. The products were placed in a cooler for rapid chilling to 45°F or below prior to return to service.

Potentially hazardous foods were not kept at or above 140°F during hot holding. Chicken products were observed at 120-130°F in a hot holding unit. All of the products were rapidly re-heated prior to return to service.

A re-inspection was satisfactory.

 
Collegetown Bagels, C-Ithaca
Potentially hazardous foods were not stored under refrigeration. Milks were observed on a counter at 50°F for customer service. The products were voluntarily discarded during the inspection.

A re-inspection was not conducted prior to submission of this report.

 
Ithaca Ale House, C-Ithaca
Enough refrigerated storage equipment was not maintained so that all potentially hazardous foods were stored at 45°F or below. Hamburger patties and chicken breasts were observed at 53° in a cold holding unit. The products were voluntarily discarded during the inspection.

A re-inspection was not conducted prior to submission of this report.

 
Cajun Café Grill, V-Lansing
Potentially hazardous foods were not stored under refrigeration. Cooked potatoes and cooked chicken were observed at 98-120°F. The potatoes were voluntarily discarded during the inspection. The chicken was rapidly chilled to 45°F or below prior to return to service.

A re-inspection was not conducted prior to submission of this report.

 
Stella’s Café, C-Ithaca
Potentially hazardous foods were not kept at or above 140°F during hot holding. Cooked potatoes were observed at 118-120°F. The product was voluntarily discarded during the inspection.

A re-inspection was not conducted prior to submission of this report.

 
Lehigh Valley House, C-Ithaca
Potentially hazardous foods were not kept at or above 140°F during hot holding. Chicken sauce and gravy were observed at 120-125°F. Both products were rapidly re-heated to 165°F prior to return to service.

Pre-Operational inspections are conducted, following a thorough review and approval of proposed plans, at new or extensively remodeled facilities to ensure code compliance prior to opening to the public.
