Mission Statement

The mission of the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office is to provide effective law enforcement services to the community through community partnership, deterrence of crime, apprehension of offenders, victim/witness assistance, recovery and return of property, public service, enhance of the quality of life and the fair and equitable treatment of all persons. Our motto is "Honor, Pride, Integrity." 

Transparency 

Transparency in our work is of upmost importance as it serves to increase communication, transparency, and accountability. Without basic information on how our activity impacts the lives of our community members, it is difficult to build a trusting relationship between the Sheriff’s Office and the community we are sworn to protect and serve. The purpose of this dashboard is to provide you with complete data on our activities and their associated outcomes. Our dashboard presents data that is currently collected by us, with the intent to expand upon it in time.

Our policies set the standards and expectations for employee actions and provide the public with a general standard by which they can measure the performance of the Sheriff's Office. Our policies incorporate national best-practices and feedback from stakeholders. A policy does not become an active policy until several steps are achieved. Community Partnership

A partnership between the community of Tompkins County and the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office is essential in maintaining public trust and the highest standard of policing for our community. If you feel you have been treated improperly by a deputy or employee of the office, we strongly encourage you to contact the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office about your complaint so that it may be fully investigated. We also appreciate and welcome commendations and other comments from members of the public. To ensure excellent service is recognized and modeled, it is important for us to hear about our community's experience.
